Grief and Loss Therapy For Michiganders

Therapy For Loss and Bereavement

Grief and loss are some of the most painful and unwelcome edits to our story. Often, they enter through the death or loss of:

  • a loved one

  • good health

  • a pet

  • a relationship

  • a season of life (e.g entering young adulthood or the empty nest stage)

  • something familiar or of great value  (e.g. entering retirement)

Saddling your grief and loss may be an unexpected shift in your identity, a sense of disconnection, confusion, and inability to figure out your way through this chapter in life.

I welcome your invitation to enter with you into your loss and the changes that have accompanied it. I provide a safe place to unpack your story, grieve, and just be. As you feel ready, we will consider and try out sound ways to engage with the difficult feelings and realities in a way that helps you heal, move forward, and confidently continue your story - one line at a time.

What does it mean to “process” grief in therapy?

Processing grief starts with sharing your story with me and grieving your loss together. As you are ready, we will gently consider how your loss has permeated your life, rearranged your priorities, altered your identity, and stolen what used to be solid underneath your feet

And together as we move through your story, we’ll find words that help you describe and better understand the chaos, learn how to make room to feel versus shutting down the pain which reinforces the anxiety and depression. With much time and tenderness, together we’ll begin to consider how to move forward, define what it means to live well and redeem the unthinkable.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) for Grief and Loss

CBT is one science-back approach that will likely make its appearance when seeking help for grief and loss. But, it is only one of many that we have at our disposal. While CBT excels at equipping us with skills, it stops short of making meaning of our life experiences and falls short of helping us arrive at significant insights and experiences that are an important part of one’s healing
