Marriage Counseling for Michiganders

Marriage therapy focusing on repair for couples who are weary and whose relationship has taken a few hits.

This is not the love story you dreamed about.  Emotional connection has vanished along with the feeling of safety, meaningful communication, and physical intimacy.  Despite your efforts, nothing changes, and sadly, the disconnection has spilled over onto the children, your emotional and physical health, and maybe even into your professional life.

Let’s be honest. Marriage therapy will be a difficult and time-consuming journey. There is hope.  It’s going to require vulnerability, patience, and a willingness to do hard things. You’ll be pushed outside your comfort zone but never outside your safety zone. If that sounds scary, know that I’ll be there with you every step of the way.

Cognitive Behavioral Couples Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) absolutely has a rightful place in couples therapy. Its tool-based approach can be useful when partners would benefit from learning skills to better regulate emotion, especially when interacting with their partner. In marriage therapy, CBT stands nicely on the shoulders of the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy which does the brunt of the work.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Marriage Counseling

Standing alongside the Gottman Method for Couples is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Based on science, EFT takes into consideration the highly regarded theory of attachment and leads partners on a journey of learning about the importance of being securely attached and how to create a secure attachment with the one they love most. Zoom Marriage Counseling

Although marriage counseling has traditionally taken place on pleather couches, recent studies suggest that therapy done via Zoom in most cases is just as effective as pleather couch-based therapy. Before we begin, our Zoom-based marriage counseling we’ll consider the practical aspects of telehealth as well as relationship and individual dynamics.  Zoom-based marriage counseling is not a forever commitment.  If at any time you are not benefitting from teletherapy,  we will work together to find a solution.

Gottman and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Trained Therapist

The Gottman Method for Couples and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) are considered by many marriage therapists to be the gold standard for marriage counseling. I have advanced training in both and currently seek supervision and ongoing training in EFT.
